Today we are excited to give you a first look at Ålesund, an interesting and unique city. It will be featured in our upcoming Nordic Horizons DLC for Euro Truck Simulator 2. This city is built on several islands, connected by bridges and tunnels. This makes for an exciting coastal layout on your journey there! Let’s take a closer look, shall we?

Coastal Routes and City Access

Visiting **Ålesund** will offer a route unlike most others. The E136 highway brings you directly into the city centre. Narrow streets are lined with colourful buildings here, and waterfront views open up between them. From the centre, drivers will be able to continue westwards into a marine area. This area is home to a fisheries depot, one of several industries represented in and around the city.

Key Industries and Logistics Hub

Fishing has long been a cornerstone of Ålesund’s economy. However, today the city is also an important hub for many different sectors. Truckers can expect to find jobs connected to a container port, a beverage factory, a chemical plant, and a logistics company. With so many opportunities in a relatively compact area, Ålesund will surely become a busy stop in any driver’s schedule across Norway and beyond.

The Unique Art Nouveau Look

Ålesund is also known for its distinctive architecture. A fire in 1904 destroyed much of the city. Afterwards, it was rebuilt in the Art Nouveau style. This remains one of its defining characteristics today. Players will notice this influence as they pass landmarks like the Art Nouveau Centre, the Kube Art Museum, Hellebroa bridge, and Rådhusplassen square. Overlooking it all is the hillside of Aksla. This feature provides a natural backdrop that truckers may spot on the skyline as they drive through.

A Gateway to the Fjords

Ålesund is often described as one of Norway’s most charming cities. It also serves as a gateway to nearby fjords. While truckers will be focused on deliveries and depots, we believe the city’s atmosphere and unique look will leave a lasting impression as you pass through its streets and industries.
