    Benelux Rework:
    Water Bodies & Landscape Updates

More news from the Benelux Rework project has arrived! In today’s post, we’ll explore the water bodies — a feature deeply intertwined with this region’s identity. Let’s dive into what to expect when this rework is complete.

The Benelux region has been molded by rivers, canals, and the sea over centuries. In the Netherlands especially, people long ago mastered the art of living with water. Constructing dikes, canals, and polders to contain it or reclaim land. Large swathes of the Netherlands lie below sea level. Making the extensive system of dams and barriers essential for protecting the terrain.

Windmills, still visible across the countryside, once played a crucial role in draining swamps and reclaiming new land. The development team has been working to incorporate these distinctive features into ETS2.

As you drive through this region, you’ll notice that water is not merely decorative — it’s fundamental to Benelux’s landscape and its logistics. Natural rivers run alongside engineered canals, serving both transport and aesthetic roles. And then there’s the mighty North Sea, sculpting the northwestern coasts of Belgium and the Netherlands and anchoring some of Europe’s busiest container ports.

On your trucking routes, you may cross the famed Afsluitdijk — the dam that separates the IJsselmeer from the sea — or traverse bridges spanning the Waal, one of the Rhine’s major branches. Further south, in Belgium, the Meuse (Maas) courses by beautiful cities like Liège, where hydropower plants harness the river’s energy.

We hope this preview of the Benelux Rework project has intrigued you. More updates are on the horizon, so stay tuned by following us on Twitter, Facebook, BlueSky, YouTube, and Instagram, or by subscribing to our newsletter. Until next time — happy haulin’.
