OFFICIAL: A NEW ERA FOR UK TRUCKING – PROJECT UK REWORK UNVEILED!

Prepare a proper cuppa; the wait is finally over! The developers at SCS Software have confirmed the monumental Project UK Rework for Euro Truck Simulator 2! This ambitious project aims to fully revitalize one of the game’s oldest regions. The goal is to bring the UK map up to modern standards.

The recent “Proper Cup of Tea” teaser was a distinct, British-themed clue. However, we must stress an important point: this rework is currently in its very early development stages. The initial screenshots provided, while exciting, show areas that are incomplete and undergoing heavy construction.

The Driving Force Behind the Project

The ETS2 UK Rework has been highly demanded by the community for years. Abbe, the project lead, confirmed the idea has been long-term. He started considering the UK rework around the time of the Austria rework. Other projects, such as Benelux, needed focus first.

Abbe shared details on the scale of the team. “Right now, there are over twenty map designers working on the early stages of the UK Rework,” he explains. This core team receives support from various specialists. These include the research, asset, road, and programming departments. This project is shaping up to be one of SCS Software’s most ambitious reworks to date.

For Abbe, this project is personal. His deep interest in British history drives his work. He loves naval fiction like Hornblower and the Aubrey & Maturin saga. He calls the UK Rework a true passion project.

New Scale and Technical Roadblocks

The team chose to completely rebuild the UK from scratch. This was necessary to fix the inconsistent map scale compared to mainland Europe. Abbe explained the technical demands: “We are changing it to make it consistent across the game.” This means including more detail in a smaller area, which is challenging. Designing for left-hand traffic adds another layer of complexity. Abbe’s personal challenge is avoiding the urge to add niche British details he loves. The team must balance realism with smooth gameplay.

Confirmed Content: Landmarks and Expansions

Abbe prefers to keep many exciting additions secret. However, he confirmed several major highlights for players:

• Iconic History: You will drive past legendary landmarks, such as Stonehenge.
• New Destination: Leeds will be included as a brand new playable city.
• Northern Expansion: The map will feature new towns and locations across Scotland.
• Improved Connection: The team is dedicated to making the new Eurotunnel look fantastic.
• Coaches DLC Synergy: The rework supports the upcoming Coaches DLC. This suggests new tourist destinations are being added.

Abbe concluded with a message to the community, asking for patience. The UK is a large area. Building it completely will take significant time. He acknowledged that some compromises may be necessary. He looks forward to sharing continuous progress through future developer diaries. These will offer a deeper look into the new ETS2 UK Rework.
