Custom depots revealed
The developers present a new deep-dive into the Euro Truck Simulator 2 Nordic Horizons depots. Today we share an extended preview of custom depots. Handcrafted locations that will populate the upcoming Nordic Horizons DLC for Euro Truck Simulator 2. These depots span farms, timber yards, quarries and small industrial sites across Sweden, Finland and Norway.

On future routes across Sweden, Finland and Norway players will deliver to a broad selection of industrial depots. These include sprawling crop farms and livestock facilities. Extensive timber harvest areas, remote fuel stations and even an underground quarry carved into the Nordic bedrock. Each depot is handcrafted by the map and assets teams to reflect local industry and to offer varied gameplay scenarios.

Creating these custom depots begins early in development. Research and map design teams collaborate to select industries that authentically represent the Nordic region. Each site undergoes a detailed design phase that defines how the facility operates, what it produces. The cargo types it handles and distinctive visual cues. This groundwork ensures depots are both believable and playably interesting.

Many of the new depots draw inspiration directly from Scandinavia’s industries: golden grain farms, modern remote gas stations. Ttimber yards, and the unique underground quarry in Kiruna. Logistics in the region often requires bridges. Short ferry crossings and long tunnels — all of which influence depot placement and the driving challenges around them.

“We’ve tried to recreate the idyllic atmosphere of Scandinavian farms. Peaceful and self-sufficient, simple and functional, yet rich in detail,” shares Anis, one of the map designers. Edrush, Depot Senior Map Designer, adds that the underground depot in Kiruna has been tuned to feel distinct from similar ATS locations. Offering a fresh challenge for ETS2 players.

If you’re keen to explore these depots yourself, add the Nordic Horizons map expansion to your Steam Wishlist. For further updates, follow the official channels on X/Twitter, Facebook, Instagram, Bluesky, and YouTube. Read related posts and developer diaries at the SCS blog.
