Discover the Water Bodies of the Illinois DLC for American Truck Simulator
The team at SCS Software invites drivers to explore the diverse Illinois DLC water bodies in the upcoming Illinois DLC for American Truck Simulator. From Chicago’s urban lakeside to tranquil southern wetlands, the state offers surprising aquatic variety. Map designers have recreated these scenic spots for drivers to discover.
Lake Michigan & Chicago’s Iconic Shoreline
One of the state’s most iconic sights is Lake Michigan. It is one of North America’s five Great Lakes. This massive freshwater body is the second-largest by volume and second-deepest. It creates an almost endless horizon view.

Exploring Chicago’s roads offers views of the lake. Drivers will pass Lakefront Park, part of the scenic Lakefront Trail. You can also spot Oak Street Beach. This popular urban sandy beach sits against Chicago’s skyscraper backdrop. It’s a place for swimming and sunbathing when the weather allows.
Inland Lakes, Reservoirs & Dams
Illinois hosts numerous lakes and reservoirs. Many serve as popular recreation areas while supporting nearby towns and infrastructure.

Southern Illinois features Rend Lake. This well-known reservoir is surrounded by forests and open countryside. The team also recreated the Rend Lake Dam. The U.S. Army Corps of Engineers constructed it in 1972.

Near the dam, drivers will see other lakes. These include Little Grassy Lake and Crab Orchard Lake. Crab Orchard is a National Wildlife Refuge and the largest of three refuge lakes in Illinois. Along I-70, you’ll pass over Highland Silver Lake. It serves as a primary water source for the city of Highland and surrounding communities.
Rivers, Wetlands & Swamps of Southern Illinois
Beyond lakes, Illinois is full of waterways that shape its landscape. Southern routes feature the Cache River. It’s known for its unique wetland environment and dense vegetation. This region has a different atmosphere compared to flatter northern areas.

Traveling over the Cache River on IL-3, you might spot an old wooden trestle bridge. It’s a remnant of the historic Illinois Central Railroad. This railway was chartered in 1851 and connected the Great Lakes to the Gulf of Mexico.
Other significant Illinois DLC water bodies include Sandusky Creek along Rend Lake’s eastern shores. Observant drivers should watch for Hatfield/McCoy Pond. There are also swampy areas inspired by real scenery near the Mark Twain Memorial Bridge. These are part of Illinois’ Great River National Wildlife Refuge Complex.
