Illinois DLC Settlements: A Second Look at the Prairie State’s Hidden Gems
A few weeks ago, the team at SCS Software shared a first preview of the smaller towns waiting to be discovered in the upcoming Illinois DLC for American Truck Simulator. Today, the team returns behind the scenes for a second look at the work map designers have been putting into bringing these settlements to life. This preview reveals even more of the charming communities that await drivers in the Prairie State.

Galena: A Step Back in Time
Starting in the far northwest corner of the state, drivers arrive in the charming town of Galena. It is set among rolling hills along the Galena River, a tributary of the nearby Mississippi River. Today, Galena is celebrated for its remarkably preserved character. More than 85 percent of its buildings are listed on the National Register of Historic Places. Driving down Main Street feels like stepping back in time. Many of the structures standing there today date back to when Ulysses S. Grant, the 18th president of the United States, once called Galena home.
As drivers explore the town, they will spot several notable landmarks. These include the local high school’s distinctive tower, a historic museum, and the local 19th-century cultural and event hall. These Illinois DLC settlements details showcase the team’s dedication to historical accuracy.

Rushville: Historic Architectural Gems
Roughly halfway between Quincy and Peoria along Route 24 lies the cozy town of Rushville. It is home to around 3,000 residents. The town has a number of historic architectural gems, particularly in the downtown area. Many date back to the 19th century when Rushville was established. Several of these have been carefully recreated by asset designers to reflect their real-world counterparts. These include the courthouse, the town square with its charming central gazebo, a classic local storefront, and even a few recognizable statues.

Farmer City: Agricultural Roots
If drivers venture northwest of Champaign, they will come across Farmer City just off Interstate 74. This rural community is deeply rooted in agricultural tradition. It is surrounded by rolling farmland, and its economy has long been shaped by crop production and livestock. The Illinois DLC settlements team has captured the authentic rural character of this farming community.

Grayville: Gateway to the Wabash
Nestled on the Illinois–Indiana state line along the banks of the Wabash River, Grayville is a charming town with easy access via Interstate 64, just south of the town. This makes it convenient for travelers heading east or west. Its surroundings of rolling hills and scenic river bottoms provide a picturesque setting. In addition to its natural beauty, Grayville is known for hosting some of White County’s most popular festivals throughout the year.

Norris City: Rural Charm
Traveling south from Grayville along Illinois Route 1, drivers will arrive in Norris City. This quaint town is home to just over 1,000 residents. Nestled amid expansive farmland, Norris City radiates peaceful, rural charm with a strong sense of community. It represents the authentic small-town atmosphere that defines many Illinois DLC settlements.
