First Look: The Vast Landscapes of the American Truck Simulator Illinois Map Expansion

As development of the Illinois map expansion for American Truck Simulator continues, players can look forward to experiencing the iconic open landscapes of the Prairie State. This preview highlights the vast farmlands, prairies, and scenic vistas that define the region’s character.

The state’s geography combines Great Lakes influences in the north with expansive agricultural plains in the central and southern regions. This expansion will allow virtual truckers to journey from the historic capital of Springfield to the iconic city of Chicago, and travel alongside the mighty Mississippi River.

    The Agricultural Heartland of Illinois

Agriculture forms the backbone of Illinois, with over three-quarters of its land dedicated to farming. The Illinois map expansion will faithfully recreate this environment, featuring endless rows of crops like corn and soybeans along major routes such as I-57 and I-72.

The development team has created new assets, including prairie grasses and improved crops, to bring these fields to life across all seasons. Classic rural scenery, including red barns, grain silos, and storage facilities, will dot the horizon.

Scenic Diversity: From Wind Farms to River Valleys

The scenery in this Illinois map expansion offers more than just flat plains. The terrain, shaped by ancient glaciers, includes gentle hills and river valleys that provide visual variety.

    Modern Wind Farms

Lines of modern wind turbines sweep across the prairie, visible from highways like US-20 and I-55. These areas will be perfect for capturing scenic screenshots during your journey.

    Forests and River Corridors

While farmland dominates, forested areas break up the plains, especially near waterways. Drivers can expect to see oak savannas and riverbank forests, particularly in the southern parts of the state along routes like IL-3 where the terrain becomes more varied with bluffs and winding river corridors.

    Discovering Illinois Towns and Landmarks

Beyond nature, the expansion will be filled with points of interest. Truckers will encounter regional landmarks, small towns, and characteristic Midwestern views. The state promises a robust trucking economy, with Chicago serving as a major national railroad hub.
