Master Double Trailers: New Driving Academy Module Coming in Update 1.58

Update 1.58 for Euro Truck Simulator 2 and American Truck Simulator will introduce a significant addition to the Driving Academy: the brand-new Double Trailer Handling module. This third module is packed with challenging scenarios designed to teach players the intricacies of maneuvering trucks with two trailers.

    What is the Driving Academy?

For players unfamiliar with this feature, the Driving Academy is an in-game tutorial system. The first module, Truck Driving Basics, covers essential controls and operations. The second, Truck Driving Proficiency, introduces more complex real-world situations. The new Double Trailer Handling module represents the next step in skill mastery.

Dedicated Training for Double Trailer Handling

The development team focused on creating practical, hands-on scenarios for handling double trailers, commonly known as “doubles.” The module features a structured set of challenges that guide players through forward driving, precise maneuvering, and the complex task of reversing with two trailers.

    Module Structure and Prerequisites

The Double Trailer Handling module is designed to be accessible to any player who has completed the Truck Driving Basics module, building directly upon skills learned with a single trailer. Completing the Truck Driving Proficiency module first is not mandatory but provides a helpful foundation.

The training is divided into three logical chapters:

    1. Forward Maneuvers: Mastering controlled driving with double trailers.
    2. Reversing Techniques: Step-by-step guidance for backing up doubles.
    3. Real-World Scenarios: Applying new skills in dynamic, challenging situations.

    Game-Specific Challenges and Progressive Learning

To increase authenticity, the Double Trailer Handling module features different challenges and trailer types for each game. Euro Truck Simulator 2 players will train with the Euro Combi double trailer, while American Truck Simulator drivers will master the B-Double configuration. This provides a unique and valuable skill-testing opportunity for each game’s community.

The module also employs a progressive learning technique. Some scenarios come in pairs, first teaching a maneuver with the trailers perfectly aligned. A follow-up scenario then introduces the same maneuver starting from a misaligned position—a common real-world situation that requires immediate correction, adding a significant layer of challenge.

    Rewards and Achievement

Successfully completing all scenarios in the Double Trailer Handling module grants players a special cabin accessory: an adorable dachshund plush toy named Frankie. Additionally, completing twelve scenarios unlocks the “Double Trouble” achievement. As with previous modules, rewards are tied to the in-game profile used to complete the challenges.
