Home Sweet Garage: A Visual Rework Arrives in ATS Update 1.58
The upcoming 1.58 update for American Truck Simulator. Brings a significant visual overhaul to one of the game’s most frequented locations: the truck garages. This sneak peek reveals the fresh new look coming to the heart of every virtual trucking company.
Why Redesign the Garages?
Garages are the cornerstone of a player’s trucking empire in American Truck Simulator, serving as a hub for managing fleets, hiring drivers, and showcasing progress. Recognizing that these spaces had become visually outdated, the development team at SCS Software initiated a comprehensive ATS garage rework. The goal was to elevate their quality to match the modern visual standards of the game, making them more immersive and enjoyable to inhabit.

A Comprehensive Visual Overhaul
The ATS garage rework encompasses all three garage sizes. The team’s ambition extended beyond a simple model update; they aimed to transform these spaces into places players are excited to return to. This involved leveraging the game’s latest graphical tools, completely revamping lighting, refreshing countless old textures and models, and creating a brand-new library of custom interior props from scratch.
“The garage rework makes use of our latest graphical tools and rendering solutions. To meet the quality level we aimed for, we revisited a large number of older assets, introduced new lighting, and built an entirely new set of custom interior props from scratch,” says Mino, Producer at SCS Software.

Balancing Fidelity with Performance
A key challenge of the ATS garage rework was optimization. The new garages had to deliver a vastly improved visual experience while maintaining performance reasonably close to the original models created over a decade ago. This required careful planning and prioritization, with some ideas reserved for future updates. The final result achieves a significant visual leap while remaining efficient.

Part of a Larger Journey: Project Road Trip
This garage visual update is a key step in American Truck Simulator’s evolution towards the broader Project Road Trip. It underscores SCS Software’s commitment to enhancing long-standing core features alongside delivering new map expansions and gameplay content. Plans are also in place to bring the same visual upgrades to Euro Truck Simulator 2 in the future.

Enhancing the Daily Experience
While garages serve a functional purpose, this visual rework aims to enrich the day-to-day experience of managing a virtual trucking business. The updated environments provide a greater sense of place, achievement, and immersion, making the moments spent between long hauls more visually rewarding.
The ATS garage rework in update 1.58 is a testament to the continuous improvement of American Truck Simulator. Players can look forward to exploring every new detail when the update releases.
