Get ready to explore the Mount Rushmore State. Today’s preview focuses on the road network of the upcoming South Dakota expansion for American Truck Simulator.
In reality, South Dakota has over 82,000 miles of roads. Most are quiet country lanes and scenic backroads. State highways make up less than 10% of the network but carry over two-thirds of the traffic, connecting key cities.

The I-90 Corridor: East-West Artery
Interstate 90 is South Dakota’s longest interstate. It spans the state from east to west. Entering from Wyoming, drivers find a welcoming rest stop just beyond the border. It offers expansive views across the rolling green prairies.

Continuing east, drivers encounter a variety of truck stops. These range from large to small, offering perfect places to pause. The drive on I-90 is scenic. It crosses the James and Missouri Rivers, providing pleasant views along the way.

I-90 also features major interchanges with its Business Route. These provide direct access from the interstate to downtown areas of cities like Rapid City and Mitchell.

Scenic Highways & Special Roads for Road Trip
The South Dakota American Truck Simulator road network also includes smaller highways like U.S. Route 12. In the northeast, this route winds through a beautiful landscape dotted with scenic lakes like Blue Dog Lake and Rush Lake. This area is a top destination for fishing in the state.

The team is also preparing special roads for the upcoming Road Trip expansion. Some scenic routes will be accessible to both trucks and cars. Others are designed exclusively for cars. Today’s showcase features two routes in the stunning Black Hills National Forest. Drivers can look forward to winding roads set in breathtaking scenery.
