Iceland DLC: A Preview of the Dramatic Coastline
The team at SCS Software returns with more news from the upcoming Iceland DLC for Euro Truck Simulator 2. Today’s blog showcases a preview of the stunning nature in the Land of Fire and Ice, with a focus on its scenic coastline.

Fire and Ice: Iceland’s Unique Coastline
Along Iceland’s nearly 5,000 kilometres of coastline, drivers can see why this country earned its nickname. The land is literally shaped by fire and ice. Steep cliffs rise above deep fjords carved by glaciers during the last ice age. Black-sand beaches stretch along the shore, formed by centuries of volcanic activity.
Most of Iceland’s beaches are made of black sand. This dark, almost otherworldly appearance comes from volcanic lava that cooled rapidly when meeting the sea. The ocean slowly wears down softer rocks above the basalt, creating the cliffs visible today. The mainland is dotted with smaller islands and countless rocky outcrops. These features add to the rugged feel of the landscape.

Reynisdrangar: Iconic Sea Stacks
One of the most stunning locations in this map expansion is Reynisdrangar. This impressive series of rock formations rises from the sea near the shore of the famous black-sand Reynisfjara Beach. The location sits close to Iceland’s southernmost village, Vík í Mýrdal. These dramatic basalt sea stacks are remnants of large ancient sea cliffs. They tower out of the ocean under the steep cliffs of Mt. Reynisfjall.

While the area is truly breathtaking, visitors should be aware of dangers. Unexpectedly powerful waves and strong currents frequently occur here. This part of the coastline is also heavily affected by erosion. These forces add to both its wild beauty and its danger.

The West Fjords: Vestfirðir
The northwestern peninsula of Iceland has a name that perfectly reflects its landscape: Vestfirðir, meaning “West Fjords”. Here, drivers can travel along a coastline carved by dozens of fjords. These long inlets were formed by ancient glaciers that reached far inland. Traveling along Route 60 reveals breathtaking views of the ocean, dramatic cliffs, and rugged terrain at every turn. The Iceland DLC coastline truly shines in this region.

Ring Road Highlights
Travelers along the Ring Road should watch for stunning scenery along the way. One highlight is the southeast coast. Here, numerous glacial rivers carry sediments to the ocean. They create striking lagoons and sandbars that stretch along the shoreline.

Towering Cliffs Along the Coast
Driving further along the coast reveals another spectacular sight shaped by Iceland’s geological forces. Towering cliffs were once part of the seabed. Here, the road runs along a shallow shore. The ocean lies on one side, while massive cliffs rise on the other.
