South Dakota DLC Cities: Aberdeen, Watertown, Brookings, Yankton & Mitchell
The team at SCS Software is excited to continue the journey across South Dakota. Today’s blog highlights even more cities coming with this DLC for American Truck Simulator. Each one has its own unique history and charm. The talented teams have captured and recreated them all.

Aberdeen: The Hub City
Aberdeen is located in northeastern South Dakota. It serves as an important hub for agriculture and industry. The city also acts as a key gateway for drivers heading toward North Dakota. Known as the “Hub City,” it connects surrounding rural communities. The South Dakota DLC cities collection includes this vital transportation center.

In-game, drivers will find a variety of industries to explore. These include a large farm and a sizeable farm equipment scrapyard. A soybean processing facility is also present. These reflect the steady flow of agricultural freight across this part of the state. The city also features several notable buildings and landmarks. These include the White House Inn, Aldersgate Church, and the Brown County Offices. Be sure to stop by the local truck stop before continuing your haul.
Watertown: Rural Charm and Industry
Watertown is surrounded by farmland and home to many industrial businesses. The city offers a unique blend of rural charm and economic activity. It sits near the notable glacial Pelican Lake. This lake is a popular destination for outdoor activities. It was shaped by melting glaciers over 20,000 years ago.

Watertown is known as the home of Terry Redlin. He was a famous American artist of wildlife and rural nostalgia. An Art Centre named after him is located in the city. The team has included it in the recreation. Drivers will also deliver to and from a range of industries. These include an ethanol plant, a trailer manufacturing facility, and residential development depots.

While driving through Watertown, you may notice the city’s unique layout. Diagonal streets form the original town centre. They were aligned with the railway that once ran through the city. This allowed easier access for transporting goods. As the city grew, development shifted to a traditional straight grid pattern. This created the distinct mix of layouts you can see today.
Brookings: Home of SDSU
Brookings is home to South Dakota State University. It is a lively city with plenty to discover. One of its most recognisable sights is the Coughlin Campanile. This 165-foot-tall chimes tower was completed in 1929. It stands proudly on the university campus. The tower was listed on the National Register of Historic Places in 1987.

Elsewhere in the city, you will find Veterans Memorial Park. This multi-war memorial honours all veterans, past, present, and future. Its design features a centralised star symbol. It represents the five branches of the armed forces.

Drivers passing through Brookings will also come across Pioneer Park. It is a popular local spot that hosts community events throughout the year. Looking for work? Brookings offers a wide range of job opportunities. These include a custom farm depot and a furniture manufacturing facility. Several other industries also support the local economy.
Yankton: River City on the Missouri
Yankton is situated along the Missouri River. The city is deeply connected to the water. It has earned the nickname “River City.” One of its most iconic landmarks is the Meridian Bridge. It was completed in 1924. This historic double-deck, vertical-lift structure was the first permanent crossing over the Missouri River in the Yankton area.

The bridge played a vital role in connecting the region. It carried early freight routes moving goods across state lines. Originally built for traffic between South Dakota and Nebraska, it remained in use for over 80 years. It was replaced in 2008. Today, it has been preserved as a pedestrian and bicycle crossing. It still stands as a defining landmark of Yankton.

In Yankton itself, drivers can also pass by the Veterans Memorial and a local church. Many visitors are drawn to nearby Lewis and Clark Lake. It is one of the most popular recreation areas in the South Dakota state park system. Drivers will have the opportunity to complete deliveries to a local depot while taking in the sights.
Mitchell: Home of the Corn Palace
Mitchell is located along Interstate 90 between Sioux Falls and Pierre. The city is best known for one of South Dakota’s unique attractions: the famous Corn Palace. It is decorated with elaborate murals made entirely from corn and other grains. The Corn Palace draws visitors from across the country. It stands as a true local icon.

In addition to this landmark, Mitchell features a variety of industries for drivers. These include a grain elevator, farm depot, and trailer production facility. A building materials factory is also present. You will also find an oil and natural gas site nearby. A spacious truck stop is available for long-haul drivers traveling along I-90.
