Iceland DLC Custom Depots: Silicon Factory, Quarries & Farms
Today’s blog brings you a glimpse at some of the custom depots featured in the upcoming Iceland map expansion. It is currently in development for Euro Truck Simulator 2. Let’s take a look at what the map designers are working on.

Iceland DLC Custom Depots: Silicon Metal Factory
The largest depot is a landmark silicon metal factory. It is an accurate 1:1 copy of the real-world facility. This will be the home of a new virtual company called Kísilverksmiðja. The factory produces silicon metal. This material is used in many applications. These include the chemical industry and production of silicones. It is also used for high-strength aluminium alloys in the automotive industry.

Truckers can drive to nearly every corner of the complex. They can load or unload their truck in various locations. The specific spot depends on the cargo type they are hauling. The depot also features dynamic cargo loading of logs. Logs play a key role in this industry. The entire location is positioned near the coast. In addition to the tunnel connecting the depot and the city, drivers will also enjoy beautiful sea views. The Iceland DLC custom depots showcase the country’s unique industrial landscape.
Three Custom Quarries
You will find three custom-made quarries in the towns of Selfoss, Patreksfjörður, and Blönduós. Quarrying of aggregate materials is an important industry in Iceland. Both rock and sediment are extracted. Aggregates are needed for building and road construction projects across the country.

All of these quarries are branches of MS Stein. Truckers may already know this well-established company. Set within Iceland’s iconic landscapes, these unique depots offer striking surroundings. The first two lie at the foot of towering cliffs. The second one also boasts sweeping views of the sea.

Six Custom Farm Depots
Truckers will also come across six custom farm depots. Each reflects the characteristic Icelandic rural way of life. These are usually smaller, family-owned homesteads. They are often situated at the foot of mountains. The surrounding landscape shapes their character. Their architecture is adapted to Iceland’s demanding climate. Practical materials such as concrete and corrugated metal are used.

On these farms, you will often see typical regional livestock. Icelandic sheep and cattle are most common. Some farms are tucked into the landscape, like those in Þórshöfn and near Reykjavík. Others are located right beside the road.

Capturing Iceland’s Unique Atmosphere
With these farms, the map designers tried to convey Iceland’s unique character. Narrow Icelandic roads wind through deep valleys. Charcoal-colored rocks and soil define the terrain. Farmsteads appear as clusters of modest buildings. They nestle against the base of rugged mountains. Beyond them, vast stretches of land extend far into the rocky highlands. Roaming sheep complete the scene. The Iceland DLC custom depots capture this distinctive rural atmosphere perfectly.
